Infosys test pattern for freshers: sections, pseudocode and interviews
Infosys hires freshers through an online assessment followed by a technical interview and an HR interview. Roles range from the main Systems Engineer track to higher-paid specialist roles such as Digital Specialist Engineer and Specialist Programmer, which have harder coding rounds. The online test is known for tough logical reasoning, a pseudocode section, puzzles and a short essay.
Companies do not publish an official, fixed test pattern, and it can change from drive to drive. The pattern below is the one reported by students in recent drives. Your test invitation is the final word.
Infosys online test: reported pattern
| Section | Questions | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Logical Reasoning | 15 | 25 minutes |
| Mathematical Ability | 10 | 35 minutes |
| Verbal Ability | 20 | 20 minutes |
| Pseudocode | 5 | 10 minutes |
| Puzzle Solving | 4 | 10 minutes |
| English Writing (essay or email) | 1 | 20 minutes |
Each section has its own timer. Specialist roles add a separate hands-on coding test.
What each section needs
- Logical Reasoning: arrangements, data sufficiency, coding-decoding, syllogisms and visual reasoning. This is the section that decides most results, because the time per question is short and the puzzles are long.
- Mathematical Ability: only 10 questions in 35 minutes, so they are lengthy: permutations and combinations, probability, number system, time-speed-distance and work.
- Verbal Ability: reading comprehension, sentence correction, fill in the blanks and para-jumbles.
- Pseudocode: read a short piece of code and predict the output. Practise loops, recursion and operator precedence.
- Puzzles: number and logic puzzles; stay calm and work step by step.
- Writing: a short email or essay. Use a clear structure, short sentences and no spelling mistakes.
Interviews
- Technical interview: your final-year project, one programming language in depth, OOP concepts, DBMS (SQL queries), operating systems and simple coding questions.
- HR interview: introduce yourself, strengths and weaknesses, relocation and shift readiness, and why Infosys.
A three-week plan
- Week 1: one reasoning topic and one maths topic a day, 25 questions each.
- Week 2: pseudocode practice daily (10 snippets), verbal practice and two short emails.
- Week 3: two full timed tests, then revise your project and SQL for the interview.
