AMCAT: modules, scoring, validity and is it worth taking?
AMCAT is an employability test run by SHL India (which acquired Aspiring Minds). Instead of taking a separate test for each company, you take AMCAT once and your score is shared with employers in SHL's network, who invite candidates above their own cut-offs. There is no negative marking, and a score is valid for one year.

The three aptitude modules are computer-adaptive: the next question gets harder or easier depending on your answers, so the early questions in each module matter most.
How scores work
- Each section is reported on a scale of up to 900, with a percentile.
- The personality inventory does not change your aptitude score; employers may use it to judge job fit.
- Companies set their own cut-offs and usually do not publish them.
- Most employers see your latest score, not your best, so retake only when you have clearly improved.
- There is a 45-day gap between attempts.
Is AMCAT worth it?
AMCAT helps most if your college has few campus drives, because it puts your profile in front of many employers at once. It does not replace applying directly on company careers pages. Prepare properly before taking it, since a weak score stays visible for a year.
How to prepare
- Quant and reasoning: standard placement topics; since the test is adaptive, focus on accuracy in the first few questions.
- English: grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension.
- Automata: if your target roles need coding, practise array, string and pattern problems in one language.
- Take one full timed practice test before the real one.
