MICAT 2027: dates, sections and how MICA selects students

MICAT is the admission test of MICA, Ahmedabad, India's best-known school for marketing and communications management. It is held twice: MICAT I on 5 December 2026 and MICAT II on 12 February 2027. For most of MICA's management programmes (PGDM and PGDM-C), you also need a valid CAT 2026, XAT 2027 or GMAT score.

MICAT is unlike other MBA tests. Alongside aptitude, it has a psychometric test and a descriptive writing section, so creativity and self-awareness matter as much as speed.

The three parts of MICAT

Psychometric test

Statements about how you think and behave, where you choose how much you agree. There are no right answers; answer honestly and consistently. Trying to "game" this section usually shows up as inconsistency.

Descriptive test

Short writing tasks: a story from a set of pictures or a prompt, or an argument for or against a statement. MICA looks for original ideas, clear structure and good language. Practise one 15-minute story and one argument every day for two weeks.

Aptitude

Verbal ability, quantitative ability with data interpretation, and divergent and convergent thinking (questions that test creative and logical connections between ideas, words and pictures). The quant level is moderate.

The number of questions and the marking can change between MICAT I and MICAT II. Read the instructions on the test screen.

Preparation tips

  1. Take MICAT I if you can. If it goes badly, MICAT II is a second chance.
  2. Read MICA's official sample paper and past students' experiences of the descriptive section.
  3. Keep your CAT or XAT preparation going: the score is needed for shortlisting.
  4. Read about advertising, brands and media; it helps with both writing and the interview.

Frequently asked questions

Is MICAT enough on its own for MICA's PGDM?

No. For most School of Management programmes you need a CAT, XAT or GMAT score as well as MICAT. Some School of Applied Creativity programmes accept MICAT alone.

Can I take both MICAT I and MICAT II?

Yes. Check MICA's rules for which score is used if you take both.

Is there negative marking in MICAT?

Not in the psychometric test. For the aptitude section, follow the instructions shown in your test, as MICA can change the scheme.
