IPMAT Rohtak: pattern, eligibility and how the merit list is made

IIM Rohtak runs its own entrance test, IPMAT Rohtak, for its five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM). It is a separate exam from IPMAT Indore, with a different pattern. The test has 120 multiple-choice questions in three sections (Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability), takes 120 minutes, and is marked +4 for a correct answer and −1 for a wrong one.

The 2027 notification is not out yet at the time of writing; going by recent years, applications open around February and the test is held in May. Check iimrohtak.ac.in for the official dates.

Why Rohtak is different from Indore

• Logical Reasoning is a full section of 40 questions. IPMAT Indore has no separate reasoning section.
• All questions are multiple choice. There is no type-in-the-answer section like Indore's.
• Board marks count in the final merit (30% together for Class 10 and 12), so school results matter.

How to prepare

• Quant: Class 9 and 10 maths: arithmetic, algebra, number system, geometry and basic statistics. Rohtak's quant is usually easier than Indore's, so accuracy matters more than difficult tricks.
• Logical Reasoning: arrangements, series, coding-decoding, blood relations, directions and syllogisms. This section is very scoring with practice.
• Verbal: reading comprehension, grammar, vocabulary and para-jumbles. Read an English newspaper daily.

With −1 for a wrong answer, avoid blind guessing. Answer when you can eliminate at least two options.

1. Until January: one hour a day, alternating quant and reasoning, plus 20 minutes of reading.
2. During board exams: keep only reading going.
3. After boards: full-time preparation with a 120-question mock every two or three days.

Frequently asked questions

Is IPMAT Rohtak the same as IPMAT Indore?

No. They are two different tests with different patterns, dates and applications. Many students take both.

Do Class 10 and 12 marks matter?

Yes. You need at least 60% (55% for reserved categories) to be eligible, and in 2026 the marks carried 30% of the final merit.

Is there negative marking?

Yes. A wrong answer loses one mark; a correct answer earns four.
