IPMAT Indore 2027: pattern, eligibility and what is known so far
IPMAT Indore is the entrance test for IIM Indore's five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM), which students join right after Class 12. At the time of writing, IIM Indore has not yet announced the IPMAT 2027 dates. Going by last year, applications are likely to open in early February 2027 and the test is likely in early May 2027.
The test itself is a 2-hour computer-based test with three sections: Quantitative Ability (MCQ), Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) and Verbal Ability. Final selection is based on the test score (65%) and a personal interview (35%). Below are the rules from IIM Indore's official admission document for the 2026 batch, which is the best guide until the 2027 document is out.

For 2027, expect each year to move forward by one (for example, born on or after 1 August 2007, and Class 12 in 2025, 2026 or 2027), but wait for the official document before relying on it.
The official IPM page is on iimidr.ac.in. Check it from January onwards for the IPMAT 2027 admission procedure.
Test pattern
| Section | Type | Time | Marking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Quantitative Ability | Multiple choice | 40 minutes | +4 correct, −1 wrong |
| Quantitative Ability | Short answer (type the number) | 40 minutes | +4 correct, no negative marking |
| Verbal Ability | Multiple choice | 40 minutes | +4 correct, −1 wrong |
The sections come in a fixed order, each with its own 40-minute timer. IIM Indore does not state the number of questions in its admission document; students who took recent tests report about 30 Quant MCQs, 15 Quant short-answer questions and 45 Verbal questions.
There is also a minimum score in every section, set separately for each category. So a student who is excellent in Verbal but very weak in Quant (or the other way round) may not be shortlisted. Balance matters.
How selection works
- Shortlisting for the interview uses the Aptitude Test Score, with the sections weighted: Quant MCQ 25, Quant short answer 25 and Verbal 50 (out of 100). Verbal carries half the weight.
- Personal interview (online or in person): questions about you, your Class 12 subjects, current affairs and why you want management. A minimum performance is needed here too.
- Final merit list: test score 65% and interview 35%.
Seats are reserved as per government rules: NC-OBC 27%, SC 15%, ST 7.5%, EWS up to 10% and PwD 5%.
What to study
- Quant: Class 9 and 10 maths taken further: number system, algebra (equations, inequalities, progressions), percentages and ratios, time speed and distance, geometry and mensuration, permutations and probability, logarithms, matrices and determinants, and some functions. The short-answer section has no options, so careful working matters.
- Verbal: reading comprehension, vocabulary (words in context), grammar and sentence correction, para-jumbles and fill in the blanks. Regular reading of newspapers and good non-fiction is the best preparation.
A plan alongside Class 12
- November to January: build basics for one hour a day. Alternate Quant topics with daily reading. Do not let it affect board preparation.
- February and March (boards): keep only reading and vocabulary going, 20 to 30 minutes a day.
- After boards to the test (about 6 weeks): full-time preparation. One topic test daily, two sectionals a week in the first three weeks, then one full timed test every two or three days.

Frequently asked questions
Has IIM Indore announced IPMAT 2027?
Not at the time of writing. Based on last year, the admission procedure is likely in January and applications in February. This page will be updated once the official document is out.
Is there a minimum percentage in Class 10 or 12?
IIM Indore's 2026 document did not state a fixed minimum percentage; it said the institute decides eligibility based on marks and may change the conditions. Check the 2027 document when it is released.
Is there negative marking?
Yes, in the two multiple-choice sections (−1 for a wrong answer). The Quant short-answer section has no negative marking.
Is IPMAT Indore the same as IPMAT Rohtak?
No. IIM Rohtak holds its own IPMAT with a different pattern. IIM Indore's IPMAT score is also used by some other institutes, such as IIM Ranchi and IIM Shillong, for their own integrated programmes.
